EcoPro Microwave VOC incinerators

EcoPro has developed equipment that removes volatile organic compounds such as BTX, IPA and MEK, most of which are known as carcinogens. The system has the advantage of compact size compared to existing facilities by combining VOC adsorption/desorption and catalytic oxidation. It is highly applicable to industrial sites where a lot of VOCs occur, such as painting booths, semiconductor/LCD manufacturing processes, petrochemical processes, etc. In addition, It can be used as a dehumidifier or as a part of air conditioning system.

EcoPro has delivered since 2017 in total 72 units of EcoPro Microwave VOC incinerators (66 000 Nm³/h and 90 000 Nm³/h) to Hyundai shipyards in Korea. The strong growth of these deliveries will continue also in the future.

Microwave Heating for Adsorbent Regeneration

Generally, regeneration of VOC-laden adsorbents by hot-gas purge has low energy efficiency because not only the adsorbent but also the purge gas itself and other mechanical parts must be heated. However, microwave radiation offers “target heating” of internal heat generation within the VOC-laden adsorbents during the regeneration process.

Microwave heating is much more energy-efficient than thermal heating because microwave radiation enables “target-heating” of internal heat generation during the regeneration process.

Application of zeolitic adsorbent and catalyst in combination with microwave heating for VOC abatement in flue gas has been effectively materialized in this system. VOCs from the flue gas are trapped and concentrated onto the zeolitic adsorbents. At VOC desorption (or adsorbent regeneration) mode, the temperature of the adsorbent is speedily increased by microwave-heating to the VOC desorption temperature of up to ca. 200°C. Desorbed VOCs are completely oxidized to CO₂ and H₂O by the microwave-assisted catalytic oxidizer.
